Elf-prince Collects Luxury Rolex Watch

Do you recognized the man in the picture?

Yes, he was the elf-prince Legolas in The Lord of the Rings, British actor Orlando Bloom.

Do you know he is also a Rolex watch collector?

At the Antiquorum's Important Collectors' Wristwatches auction in New York, some of Olando Bloom's collection of classic and vintage Rolex watches were auctioned off a few months ago with proceeds going to to the United Nations children’s charity which Bloom is heavily involved in. The auction revealed that the Lord of the Rings star to be a man with superlative taste in timepieces.

The highlight of the collection was the fine and rare 1973 Explorer II Steve McQueen model, which is highly prized by Rolex aficionados. Bloom wore this one estimated to be at a price between $10,000 and $15,000 with a leather cuff bracelet. It is likely the price of the watch will continue to soar.

Also on offer was a newer piece, a rare black PVD-coated steel Milgauss anti-magnetic chronometer produced in 2008, estimated at $10,000 - $15,000 as well.

But if you want something cheaper, then you can easily settle for the 1969 Explorer for $3,000-$4,000. All of the watches sold included an autographed copy of the auction catalog.
