If you are a Fortis watch fan, you would notice that the design of these new models are different from their relatively consistent conservative design. You are right. The design is actually a collaboration between Fortis and Volkswagen Design.
The new watches, called Fortis Cargo Limited Edition Spacematic and Fortis Cargo Limited Edition Spaceleader, come in just 2012 pieces respectively. While the Spacematic has the title of the movie right on the dial, the Spaceleader has no "Cargo" movie branding on it. Both watches are powered by a ETA movement and have a sapphire crystal. While Spacematic has 200 meters of water resistance, Spaceleader is only water resistant to 100 meters.
Spacematic is more basic. Many prefer Spaceleader to Spacematic. The Fortis Spaceleader is one of the few avant garde watches out there that succeeds in also being a fantastic utilitarian time keeper and chronograph instrument. The watch is estimated to sell at around $3,000.
With a sophisticated futuristic design, these two watches are actually reasonable of something that would be popular in the future and quite attractive for a spaceship crew member.
Fortis has been involved with professional aviation and space exploration watches for a while. Russian cosmonauts have been using Fortis watches, and Fortis recently submitted their MARS 500 Experiment watch as they want to be the watch to go to Mars. Currently, the Fortis replica watch is not very commonly available as other big names such as Rolex and Omega.
